Our principal's panel session was a really useful experience for me, It helped me to get a feel for what I should be prepared for in hiring process. One idea I am really considering after listening to the principals panel is taking a year to sub, so that I can get my foot in the door at several high schools and see which school is really a good fit for me. Finding a school with a culture that fits me is just as important as finding a job, I want somewhere where I fit in, get along well with the staff, and can get involved with the water polo program as well. This idea was proposed to us by Kyle Ruggles, the principal from La Costa Canyon High School.
I also found it useful to hear how the principal's we met interview candidates for their jobs. I would have never imagined that they would give you a standard and ask you to design a lesson on the spot, but it is extremely useful to be prepared for that to happen. Overall, I feel much more comfortable with looking for a job after participating in this principals panel.
