Now that students have been hooked into the unit through a real world connection it is time to do some vocabulary development and front loading. 1. Pass out the half sheets to students. 2. Assign each student on of the words at the top of the page. 3. Students will fill out these boxes describing their word in detail, they may want to look up a definition before they begin. Students should be encouraged to think outside of the box and paint a picture of the word with their descriptions. 4. Once the graphic organizer is completed students will group up with the other students who did their same word, they will create a poster with an image, and their descriptive words and phrases. Other students should be able to come up with a definition after viewing a poster. 5. Once all posters are complete students will do a Gallery walk and view all the posters. On a separate sheet of paper students will create a definition for each word based on the poster they view. 6. Bring the class back together and review the definitions for each word.
