Technology On The Field
To begin, you and your colleagues will identify a possibility, e.g. online publishing opportunities for student work, I Pad applications that support language learning or content specific learning, lessons and experiences that develop empathy (emotional literacy) in adolescents, etc. You and your colleagues will spend 2-3 weeks exploring the issue online. During that time you will use your Personal Learning Network to share websites, readings, make inquiries, etc., log sites and other information in Google + and “think aloud” with your colleagues.
The three of us have found common ground in our interests for this project, in the area of coaching. The passion for this that we all share is strongly based on the strong mentors and educators that have positively impacted our lives through sports. Sports have proven to be an intensively impactful arena to develop emotional literacy skills that transcend the sport themselves. In many cases they provide the leadership and role models that are often absent in a student’s life. Coaches frequently are responsible for providing students with direction, goals, and opportunities that may not have, otherwise been available or achieved.
We have been collaborating through our PLN’s, to find inspirational resources for the positive impact that technology has had in the world of sports. Many can be found on Youtube.com and ESPN that provide emotional stories that inspire, motivate, and demonstrate great accomplishments in face of, seemingly, insurmountable adversity. This creates empathy for all those who have competed in sports or simply endured hard times. We all encounter adversity in life, some more so than others, and human beings define themselves by their struggles. That is what sports do, unite us by teaching us to combat our adversity and inspire others to do the same, and now that technology has spawned a new mass scale information era sports can unite people around the world. This power to inspire the masses derives from the motivated few who invest their lives in the training of young men and women in sports, the coaches.
You will prepare a one-page brief that states the issue, synthesizes your findings, and an overview of your plan for application and activities to implement in Part II. You will post the brief on your respective websites.
The technology that we have found to be leading the way in the coaching community and making massive leaps in preparation support is hudl.com. Hudl is a cloud based website and app. that provides game film of all schools throughout the country. Coaches can upload practices and scrimmages, along with games, for students and coaches to access at anytime, anywhere. The immediate impact that has been most beneficial is that of time. The time saved in meeting opponents to exchange film, the time involved in hours of fast forward and reverse to highlight plays, and the time involved in trying to create films that are player based. What took hours and days now takes minutes at home and the finished product creates instant support on the field at your fingertips with an iPad. How this technology based tool is increasing efficiency in learning application, is by providing a multitude of techniques to reach students with different intelligences. This will allow for students with various learning styles to have all of their learning needs met with immediate feedback of their performance in multiple formats.
